I’ve just finished a call with my new client Will.

30 minutes to find out about every detail that can get him in shape.

And while there have been many things we discussed, there is one thing that resonates with me.

Accountability…

Now I’ve touched on this topic in the last week’s article here, but let me do it again.

Because it’s so crucial….

The Crucial Ingredient To Achievement

If you work in The City, you’re not in the best place to get into the best shape of your life.

Unfortunately, that’s pretty obvious.

Someone living their life on the coast of California might be.

But being very real, things are different here.

Your lifestyle is different, your life expectations are different and your focus is different.

You will commute to work, do long hours, get stressed, go see your clients or your boss, grab a pint, shake hands and go home.

Which will take you about an hour and give you a few options:

You’ll either spend time with your family, partner, friends…

Or perhaps spend some time on yourself doing something constructive…

Or will you? Let’s see…

So you’ll plan it all out, get yourself ready, get in the zone, make the decision to invest in yourself, but…

In 3, 4 or maybe 5 weeks’ time, you’re back to square one again.

First week is great, second week still good, third week only ok and then you look at your results, don’t see much progress, stop seeing the value, take your eyes off the goal and gradually stop.

And why wouldn’t you?

Who’s got the energy to keep doing something that gives them no progress while they’re tired, stressed out, got 5 more things to do and need to do something uncomfortable?

Only the crazy ones…

But it doesn’t need to be like that.

The point is this…

If you really want to get into great shape you need two things:

You need a proven system that is tailored to your lifestyle and can give you results.

And you need to stay accountable to your goals.

And unless you’ve got a system in place for that as well, your chances are slim.

As most people know what to do to get in shape, but they don’t do it.

And so I’ve decided to lay out 3 tips that can help you stay accountable to yourself.

Know Your Goals

Write them down and put a deadline on them.

It’s easy to train for a marathon or a half marathon for example.

You know you’ll be there, you know your end goal and you know when it’s happening.

So do the same..

Set up to reduce that waist measurement by 3 inches, give yourself 6 weeks to do it and then do it.

Track Your Progress

Unless you see progress, it’s really easy to get off the track…

Lose your motivation and forget about the whole getting in shape and getting fit thing…

Whatever your goals are, measure yourself once a week so you get feedback on how you’re doing…

You’ll definitely know if you need to play this game better as a result…

Also track your workouts.

Each workout you should be able to do more than the previous one.

And the only way to do so is to track them…

As well as your nutrition.

If you’re not getting your results than track your nutrition for a week and you’ll see why.

Remember what you eat is 80% of your success.

Remember Why You’re Doing This

Lastly it’s important to say, that nothing will keep you on your quest …

Unless you remember why you’re doing these things.

Do it for yourself, do it for your partner, for your kids, for your future and anything you’re passionate about really.

That’s about it for now. See you around..
